Update

In the pipeline:

  • With the help of Dave Wesson from Dudley Council it appears that we shall have a place to store our equipment in Lye. He is making it secure and hopefully we’ll be able to move all the equipment – and the boat into their new home soon.
  • After a meeting with senior planners from Dudley Council it looks as if things may be moving forward with the upgrading of the Stour Bridge. I’m optimistic!
  • I would like to continue visits to local primary schools taking a short film and talk about the river. It seems that the only way is to have contacts. Does anyone have a useful contact in a local school? It seems to fit into the curriculum and was well received in the four schools I visited.

All the best to everyone. Let’s hope we can get going again with improved weather conditions!

The Stour Bag in the shops now!

Stour-Bag
Designed by Stephanie Green

Our new reusable Shopping Bag now available in the following shops, costing £4. All proceeds will go towards the River Stour clean-ups and future projects. Designed by local artist/designer Stephanie Green

With the new 5p charge for plastic bags introduced in October, our new shopping bag is high quality and durable with a beautiful design celebrating our River Stour and the bridge…after our town’s name… an iconic bag which people be proud to carry their shopping in.

We wanted the River Stour to be the focus of the bag design, as we as a group have been working tirelessly to remove tyres and shopping trollies from the river in our monthly clean-ups.

River Stour Clean-up – Sunday 29th November

river-stour-lion-healthOur next River Stour Clean-up event

Date: Sunday 29th November
Time: 10.15 for 10.30 start
Place: Lion Health, Bradley Road, Stourbridge via Murray’s

Update

Firstly, many thanks to those who came to the last event. Nine trolleys were extracted along with all the other usual plastic muckage and some tyres. We were around 11 people. Murray’s are happy to let us in through their gate for easier access and for the next event there are some real horrors to remove. There are many tyres, a massive red bin and all the other things that appear once one gets started on removal – with the help of the brilliant winch.

More

This-Changes-Everything_Final-692x1024Filmed over 211 shoot days in nine countries and five continents over four years, This Changes Everything is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change.

The film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond.

Interwoven with these stories of struggle is Klein’s narration, connecting the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there. Throughout the film, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.
