River Stour Event – Sunday 11th November

Date: Sunday 11th November at 2pm

We will be picking along (and in!) the brook alongside Hodge Hill and Central Avenue.

It will be best to park at Wollescote Hall (Postcode is DY9 7JG & map) and walk down the hill along Wollescote Road (walk out of the main park gates and turn left). There is an entrance for walkers just before Hodge Hill. I’ll make sure there is a hi vis vest tied to the gate so everyone can see it.

Please bring wellington boots and waterproofs if you want to get into the brook – it is very muddy! For those who prefer to stay on dry land, there is plenty of litter on nearby paths and verges and alongside the brook in Wollescote Park.

River Stour Events: Sunday 14th October / Sunday 11th November

Our next event will take place on Sunday 14th October. We will meet on the grass in front of Formula 1 in Lye, though any cars might need to be parked elsewhere (perhaps in the carparks on the bypass?) As usual 10.15 for 10.30.

The next event will be Sunday 11th November afternoon meeting at 1.50 for 2pm. The site is on the right of Wollescote Road as you come down the hill past the Hall (on the left). In the dip at the bottom there are a small amount of parking spaces which may or may not be available. Continue reading “River Stour Events: Sunday 14th October / Sunday 11th November”

River Stour and canal development included in Stourbridge Area Action Plan

River Stour, Stourbridge on A491 bridge

Plans to regenerate the River and canal-sides in Stourbridge and make the town more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists are included a proposed final version of the Stourbridge Area Action Plan

New pathways alongside the River Stour and new pedestrian crossing points on parts of Stourbridge ring road to help make the town centre more accessible by foot or bicycle are among the ideas included in the regeneration plan.

New green space is also proposed alongside the banks of the River Stour to encourage wildlife, create an attractive green landscape and promote outdoor recreation such as walking and cycling.

The plan also sets out to improve the Stourbridge Wharf area, by the Stourbridge branch canal, and highlights proposals to improve visitor attraction facilities and canal-based tourism. Continue reading “River Stour and canal development included in Stourbridge Area Action Plan”
